5 Things You Never Knew About Spider-Man
Hard to believe but come August of this year, Spider-Man will be 50 years old! The wall-crawler's certainly had a busy half century battling the likes of the Green Goblin, Venom, and the Lizard, as well as Hollywood Box Office records. Sure you know a bit about ol' Web-Head. He's really Peter Parker, a high school student bitten by a radioactive spider and given incredible super powers. After his uncle is murdered, Spider-Man turns to a life of fighting crime.

But there's plenty you don't know about Spidey. With that many years under his belt, there's bound to be more than a
fair share of skeletons in his closet. Here's a look at 5 fun facts you never knew about Spider-Man.

1. Spider-Man Got Married
In the comic books, long-time couple Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson finally tied the knot in
Amazing Spider-Man Annual #21 back in 1987. The real crazy part though, is that to help promote the issue, Spider-Man and MJ really got married at a ceremony in front of over 45,000 people at Shea Stadium, where the New York Mets play. Dozens of costumed Marvel characters attended the public ceremony including the Hulk, Captain America, Iceman, and Firestar.

2. Send in the Clones
One of the biggest debates (or debacles you could say) in Spidey's sordid comic book career involves the 1990s' Spider-Clone Saga. After a lengthy and confusing storyline that started way back in the 1970s, readers were faced with Spider-Man and an exact clone of Spidey called Ben Reilly. At some point during the storyline, it was revealed that Ben was the true Spider-Man, and Peter Parker was in fact the clone. Comic fans were irate that the issues they'd been reading for the past few decades were in fact a "lie." It wasn't the real Spidey but a clone all those years? Marvel quickly backpedaled and changed the storyline to reveal that it was all a trick by Spider-Man villain the Green Goblin and that Peter Parker has always been the one true Spider-Man.

3. The Six Arms Saga
In 1971's Amazing Spider-Man #100-#102, Peter Parker decides to call it quits and give up being Spider-Man. He even concocts a serum to negate his Spider-Powers once and for all! Unfortunately, it has the opposite effect and Peter actually grows four extra arms! He then fights a vampire called Morbius and gets help from Dr. Curt Connors in creating an antidote to turn him back to your friendly neighborhood two-armed Spider-Man.

4. Spidey Killed His Girlfriend
Peter Parker's first true love, the blonde-haired Gwen Stacy, was also part of his biggest tragedy. In a fight scene atop the George Washington Bridge in issue #121 of Amazing Spider-Man, the Green Goblin tosses Gwen over the side of the bridge. Acting quickly, Spider-Man catches her leg with a web and pulls her up, only to discover that she's already dead. Apparently, the sudden stop in motion was what snapped her neck, killing her.

5. Spidey Met the President
After learning that Barack Obama was a Spider-Man fan, Marvel Comics couldn't let a rare opportunity like that slip by. So in 2009's Amazing Spider-Man #583, Spider-Man actually teamed up with President Obama to thwart an evil plan from Spidey villain the Chameleon. And yes, the two heroes even shared a patented fist bump.
